SALARY RANGE : BU03 | SR10

JOB DUTIES : The Office Assistant IV is responsible for performing a variety of highly complex clerical work for the Nursing Office and Nursing Units.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE:

  • BASIC

    EXPERIENCE:

    Six months of work experience demonstrating knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic; ability to read and understand oral and written instructions; write simply and directly; compare words and numbers quickly and accurately.
  • CLERICAL

    EXPERIENCE:

    Two years of work experience involving a variety of clerical tasks, demonstrating knowledge of office practices and procedures, and the ability to carry out procedures in clerical work systems and operate various office equipment and technologies.
  • SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE/SUPERVISORY APTITUDE: Some positions require supervisory experience or aptitude. Supervisory experience demonstrates knowledge of principles, practices, techniques and methods of supervision, including planning, organizing and directing the work of others, assigning and reviewing work, advising others on difficult work problems, timing and scheduling work, and training and developing employees. Supervisory aptitude is demonstrated by potential for supervisory duties through successful completion of assignments with supervisory responsibilities or by serving as a group or team leader, completion of training courses in supervision, or favorable appraisals indicating supervisory potential.
  • KEYBOARDING/COMPUTER SKILL REQUIREMENT: Some positions require keyboarding proficiency and/or the ability to use computers and word processing and other software applications. Positions that require keyboarding/typing skill typically require 40 net words per minute.
Substitutions
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent may be substituted for Basic Experience.
  • Excess Clerical Experience may be substituted for Basic Experience.
  • Successful completion of a full‑time equivalent clerical/office support/business technology curriculum leading to a degree, diploma or certificate, with courses in English, clerical/office procedures, and mathematics, may be substituted for the required Clerical Experience on the basis of fifteen semester credits of satisfactorily completed coursework for six months of experience, up to a maximum of two years.
  • Education in a Bachelor’s program at an accredited college or university may be substituted for Clerical Experience on the basis of fifteen semester credits for six months of experience, up to a maximum of two years.
Knowledge and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE OF: Correct English grammar, spelling, punctuation, word usage and arithmetic; office practices and procedures; operation and maintenance of common office appliances and equipment. For positions with supervisory responsibility, knowledge of principles and practices of supervision.

ABILITY TO: Plan and carry out a wide range of clerical functions, including various highly complex assignments; maintain an effective work pace under periodic deadlines; read and understand oral and written instructions; write simply and directly; compare words and numbers quickly and accurately; perform arithmetic computations; operate and maintain office appliances and equipment; compose routine correspondence and other similar material; understand, interpret, and apply pertinent policies, procedures, laws, rules and regulations;

speak simply and directly, including occasionally speaking to groups as well as individuals; and deal with others in a tactful and polite manner; for some positions, operate an automobile and/or supervise the work of others.
