Position Summary

The candidate will provide support for both the public-facing (e.g., general circulation duties, opening and closing the library, and patron assistance) and back-end aspects (library collection maintenance, clerical work) of the library, along with any miscellaneous projects as needed. The candidate is expected to consider all patron information, written or verbal, as sensitive and confidential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • General circulation (checkout, check-in/discharging items, reserves, processing fines, user registration and renewals).
  • Assist patrons in locating library materials; using the library’s discovery platform, other equipment, and referring patrons to librarians/staff when necessary.
  • Create and/or set up book and board displays on a regular basis.
  • Assist in opening the library when scheduled to work in mornings and/or securing the library in evenings and/or weekends.
Back‑end duties
  • Library collection/stack maintenance (processing materials, shelving, shelf-reading, and shifting).
  • Clerical work (word processing, spreadsheets, typing, filing, and photocopying).

Education and Experience
  • Minimum:
    Current, full-time student status at Chaminade University of Honolulu.
  • Preferred:
    Student should maintain a current GPA of at least 2.5/3.0.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Organized with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize work and resources.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to remember library policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a diverse team.

Physical Requirements

Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and some manual work that requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs and ladders, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 30 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

Requirements
  • This is a Part-time, Non-Exempt Student Worker position. Depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work mornings, nights, and/or weekends according to a semi-stable schedule.
  • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner.
  • For the Fall 2026 semester, we are looking to fill our nights and weekend shifts. This includes Monday – Thursday from 6:00 pm-11:00 pm, Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm, and Sunday from 2:00 pm-9:00 pm. Availability for these shifts will be prioritized.
