Student Worker, Forensic Sciences Administrative Assistant

The Undergraduate Student Administrative Assistant provides general administrative and office support to help the Forensic Sciences department operate efficiently. This position is ideal for an organized, dependable undergraduate student who enjoys working with people, handling administrative tasks, and supporting a professional office environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide general administrative and clerical support to department staff.
  • Answer phones, respond to emails, and greet students, faculty, staff, visitors, and social media inquiries professionally.
  • Schedule meetings, appointments, and other department activities.
  • Assist with data entry, filing, scanning, copying, and maintaining electronic and paper records.
  • Prepare documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and other administrative materials.
  • Assist with organizing events, meetings, workshops, and student activities.
  • Maintain office supplies and assist with placing supply orders as needed.
  • Help update departmental databases, calendars, websites, or other information systems.
  • Provide basic assistance to students and direct questions to the appropriate staff member.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling student, departmental, or other sensitive information.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Minimum Education

  • Current major in Forensic Sciences
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8
  • Minimum grade of B in FS 340/L, FS 455, or FS 460

Experience and Skills

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate Forensic Sciences student.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other software or apps.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional, dependable, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous office, administrative, customer service, or campus work experience.
  • Familiarity with university systems and procedures.
  • Experience with spreadsheets, databases, or scheduling software.
  • Interest in gaining professional administrative experience.

Physical Requirements

Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

Other Requirements

  • Approximately 3–5 hours per week, with scheduling arranged around the student's academic commitments.
  • This is a part-time, non-exempt Student Worker position. Depending on the department's project cycles and workflow demands, additional hours or changes to the workday schedule may occasionally be required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and have a varying schedule when required
  • Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required
  • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner
