Description

Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or Instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to one calendar year for part-time employees.

Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected to begin March 2026. Not to exceed 89 days.

This hiring is for up to one temporary position to help with geospatial analysis and updates to the Hawaii Cesspool project and to assist with the WRRC Wastewater Overlay project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* * Collect, organize, and aggregate geospatial data from multiple sources into a comprehensive geodatabase.

* * Assist with geographic analyses to identify areas suitable for sewer system expansion or centralized treatment systems.

* * Create and maintain geospatial layers for wastewater collection systems and potential expansion areas.

* * Develop user-facing maps and tools, including GIS-based address query functions for a public web portal.

* * Participate in stakeholder meetings and workshops, incorporate feedback, and refine analyses.

* * Document methods and data sources, and ensure publication of code and models.

* * Contribute to final project reports.

* * Help establish protocols for future data integration into GIS layers.

* Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

* A Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Geography or related field.

* 1-3 years of progressively responsible experience in GIS and web application or website development, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Strong working knowledge of GIS.

* Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally, including preparation of reports and related materials.

* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners.

* Proficiency with PC and common software for word processing, spreadsheets, and communications.

* Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and use various relevant programs for word processing, spreadsheet editing, and communications.

* Understanding of water research issues.

* Ability to prepare reports, documents, and communications on research outputs.

* Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, and to apply sound logic and judgment to administrative policies and procedures.

Desirable Qualifications (if applicable)

* Experience with wastewater, sewer, and infrastructure-related GIS datasets.

* Experience building simple web mapping tools or dashboards.

* Familiarity with Hawai'i geospatial data sources and agencies.
