Job OverviewThe Purchasing Technician II performs or supervises purchasing for an agency or facility, providing technical support in purchasing. Responsibilities include using a substantive knowledge of purchasing laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, and a practical knowledge of common business methods, terms, and practices. At higher levels, may carry out formal purchasing for routine items.
Responsibilities- Purchase a wide variety of goods, equipment, supplies, and materials independently.
- Prepare written requests for quotations or specifications for routine formally advertised purchases.
- Supervise and participate in purchasing work as described at the next lower level.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Legal Authorization to Work

Basic Experience Requirement
Work experience demonstrating the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions; perform basic arithmetic computations, including percentages; or high‑school graduation or equivalent.
General Experience (Two Years)
- A. Experience demonstrating a good working knowledge of governmental purchasing methods, laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and requirements; e.g., account clerical or pre‑audit work involving examination of documents supporting governmental purchases for validity and accuracy.
- B. Experience preparing and submitting requisitions for purchasing that involved gathering product information, obtaining prices or quotations, writing the requisition, and demonstrating understanding of purchasing policies and procedures.
Specialized Experience
One year of responsible work experience in purchasing supplies, materials, equipment, or services; familiarity with buying and selling terms, discounts, delivery scheduling, packing practices, commercial sources of supply, and comparative prices; ability to use purchasing reference materials and work effectively with requestors and vendors.
Supervisory Aptitude
Demonstration of supervisory aptitude through assignments involving supervisory functions, team leadership, supervision training, or favorable appraisals indicating supervisory potential.
