• Develops and implements strategic community relations and communication plans to further company goals and facilitate acceptance of company initiatives and programs.

• Functions as the company’s liaison with customers and community stakeholders for major capital projects and smaller‑scale projects, providing guidance, consultation, and strategy development.

• Conducts outreach and presentations before public groups and agencies, including in potentially hostile environments, to explain the company’s position and address sensitive community concerns.

• Collaborates with Government Relations on critical issues discussed with public and elected officials, and conducts research to assist with inquiries from federal, state, and county offices.

• Applies cultural sensitivity and assists project leads with compliance regarding historic preservation and cultural resources in Hawai‘i.

• Provides community relations support and training to employees and contractors to promote awareness and sensitivity to customer needs.

• Participates in company emergency response activities as assigned.

• Knowledge of community organizations and the utility industry.

• Understanding of federal, state, economic, business, and political climates.

• Experience in strategic communications, public affairs, or problem resolution (5–7 years).

• Strong interpersonal, leadership, and conflict‑management skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.

• Analytical and conceptual abilities to assess issues and recommend actions.

• Ability to simplify technical information for broad audiences.

• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.

• Demonstrated ethical conduct and credibility.

• Multiple years of community relations or public affairs experience, or extensive community volunteer experience.
