Utility Risk Monitoring Specialist – Oahu
Recruiting for a professional‑level role to monitor utility risk and provide real‑time detection of incidents, accidents, or significant events that could impact company infrastructure or public safety.
Job FunctionResponsible for real‑time detection and monitoring of conditions by leveraging information from field teams, meteorology tools, live video and audio feeds, databases, emergency alert systems, social media, the National Weather Service, local public safety authorities and other agencies and systems. Assesses and reports incidents, accidents, and significant events affecting company infrastructure and/or public and employee safety for situational awareness.
Essential Functions- Gather real‑time publicly available information and open‑source research to monitor and investigate weather and environmental elements, interpret data, provide situational awareness, perform data analyses, and initiate protective measures.
- Collaborate with internal teams to validate hazards and risks, monitor, detect, and document hazards or threats, provide updates during meetings, assist with training new analysts, execute fire prediction analysis, and perform special projects.
- Participate in company emergency response activities and contribute to emergency‑preparedness planning.
- BA/BS in business, fire science, engineering, environmental science, or related field; or four (4) years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Thorough knowledge of data and reporting analysis and working knowledge of general electrical utility procedures and operations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, GIS, Google Earth, weather modeling, dashboards and alerting systems.
- Working knowledge of open‑source research techniques and public information sources such as NOAA and NWS.
- Understanding of business process analysis techniques for operational performance.
- High attention to detail, analytical rigor and strong problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to manage emergency situations and work in a stressful environment.
- Strong communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation; and interpersonal skills to influence and motivate teams.
- Self‑starter, ability to meet deadlines, adapt to rapidly changing priorities and conceptualize new ideas.
- Ability to operate as a self‑starter, work independently, and maintain positive relationships across the organization.
- Must be available for rotating shift, nights, holidays and weekends to support 24‑hour operations.
- Five (5+) years of data analysis and reporting experience.
- Five (5+) years of project or program management experience, preferably in emergency management or wildfire mitigation.
- Three (3–5) years of developing and implementing programs.
- One (1–2) years of data research experience in planning, forecasting, marketing, engineering, economics, finance, or technical/scientific data analysis.
