LOCATION: Kansas City, MO / Topeka, KS

PAY RANGE:

  • Category Mgmt Analyst I: $51,000 – $63,700
  • Category Mgmt Analyst II: $62,300 – $77,900
  • Sr Category Mgmt Analyst: $79,100 – $105,400
  • Lead Category Mgmt Analyst: $93,100 – $124,100

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities

This position is responsible for fact-based research and in-depth quantitative and qualitative analysis to support the development and execution of category management, strategic sourcing, and supplier relationship management initiatives. Research would include gathering internal and external data comprised of historical spend; budget forecasts and operating plans; economic and market trends; and supplier performance. This position is responsible for analyzing data to identify trends, creating and interpreting fact-based reports, and supporting the category management team in developing and executing strategies to achieve operational and financial excellence, mitigate risk and improve supplier performance.

Responsibilities

Gather and analyze quantitative and qualitative information from multiple internal and external sources to perform the following (20%):

  • Prepare cost/benefit assessments
  • Model historical and emerging trends to predict future conditions
  • Create reports with both conceptual analysis and quantitative findings to recommend opportunities for enhanced value
  • Identify and utilize new sources of information to gain insight and develop innovative solutions
  • Develop supplier performance metrics and scorecards

Evaluate, qualify and select suppliers for sourcing activities (10%)

Actively participate in the development of long‑term strategic category plans (15%)

Provide support in the execution of category improvement strategies, strategic sourcing activities, supplier evaluations and performance reviews (30%)

Partner with internal stakeholders to obtain and analyze supplier contract compliance information (10%)

Research and assist in the resolution of issues relating to invoices, rebates, discounts, pricing, and other contractual issues (5%)

Develop and implement models to quantify and report value realized through category improvement initiatives (10%)

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Supply Chain or related field
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in Supply Chain operations, finance or other business operations preferred

Demonstrated relevant experience in:

  • developing recommendations that demonstrate ability to translate detailed information into succinct findings and action plans which are supported by in‑depth insights including longer‑term implications of alternatives;
  • conducting complex analysis and recommending strategies or policies to drive continuous improvement;
  • supporting a center‑led Supply Chain organizational model with a focus on category management, strategic sourcing and/or supplier relationship management

Utility or construction industry experience strongly preferred

Advanced financial, analytical and system skills

Expert in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, with additional proficiencies in other Microsoft Office tools including Access, Project and Visio.

In‑depth knowledge of People Soft or other Supply Chain Management/ERP software and related query/reporting tools is also preferred.

  • Advanced research, analytical and problem solving skills, including but not limited to quantitative (financial and non‑financial) and qualitative analysis of internal and external data to support the development and execution of business improvement strategies.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) with ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service and organization skills with strong attention to detail.
