This recruitment is being conducted under the Operation Hire Hawaii (OH-HI) project, a targeted outreach initiative featuring an expedited hiring process that fast‑tracks qualified applicants into job opportunities throughout Hawai’i.

Salary

$6,090 to $6,704 per month (SR‑19, Step C to I). Salary includes Shortage Category Differential.

Duties Summary

This is the full performance level for building construction inspection work involving a broad range of inspection functions for a variety of construction operations, materials, and methods under varying conditions and requirements.

Positions inspect and measure construction materials used, check methods employed in the construction, inspect the erection of false work and concrete forms, accept or reject concrete forms, construction equipment and materials based on specifications, keep detailed records of work completed and materials used, prepare and submit routine inspection reports, prepare monthly progress reports concerning the construction project, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements
  • Legal Authorization to Work: State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the state government to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • General

    Experience:

    TWO (2) YEARS of Journey level experience in the building construction trades, demonstrating knowledge of the full range of specialized knowledge, skills, abilities, and practices used in such trades, including building construction methods and materials, safety requirements, and ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
  • Specialized

    Experience:

    ONE (1) YEAR of either:
    • Building construction inspection work experience.
    • Supervisory work experience over a force of skilled trades workers in the building construction industry that involved responsibility for interpreting plans and specifications and inspecting the quality of workmanship and materials for adherence to such plans and specifications.
  • Basic Experience/

    Education:

    Work experience that involved tasks demonstrating the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, write simply and directly, and perform arithmetic computations.
  • Driver's License: Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment; the immediate vacancies have this requirement.
  • Lift and Carry: Ability to lift and carry objects of various weights up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Substitutions Allowed: Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements may apply.
