Immediate vacancies with the Department of Accounting & General Services in Kona and Hilo, Hawaii Island.
Salary: $6,090 to $6,704 per month (SR‑19, Step C to I). Salary includes Shortage Category Differential.
The position is full performance level for building construction inspection work involving a broad range of inspection functions for a variety of construction operations, materials, and methods under varying conditions and requirements.
Responsibilities- Inspect and measure construction materials and methods used in the construction at hand.
- Inspect the erection of falsework and concrete forms used.
- Accept or reject concrete forms, construction equipment and materials based on specifications or approved modifications by a higher level inspector.
- Keep detailed records of work completed and materials used.
- Prepare and submit routine inspection reports as directed.
- Prepare monthly progress reports concerning the construction project.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Legal authorization to work: citizen, national, permanent resident, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
- Basic experience/education: work experience demonstrating the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, write simply and directly, and perform arithmetic computations.
- General experience: two (2) years of journeyman level experience in the building construction trades, including knowledge of building construction methods and materials, safety requirements and practices, and ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
- Specialized experience: one (1) year of either (a) building construction inspection work experience, or (b) supervisory work experience over skilled trades workers in the building construction industry with responsibility for interpreting plans and specifications and inspecting the quality of workmanship and materials for adherence to such plans and specifications.
- Valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
- Ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted and 70 pounds assisted by another person and/or use of equipment.
- Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements may apply.
