Job Summary
The Social Media Manager leads Hawai‘i Pacific University’s organic social media strategy, content development, and digital engagement across all major platforms. This position supervises student content creators and manages a student social media lab to produce compelling short‑form video, photography, and multimedia storytelling that reflects HPU’s mission, values, and campus life. The Manager develops an editorial content calendar, monitors trends, publishes content, and tracks analytics to support strategic audience growth and community engagement.
Occasional evening and weekend shifts may be required to cover special events.
Position is located at Harbor Court (55 Merchant Street, Honolulu, HI 96813) with obligations for some travel across the island to cover HPU related events.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, media, English, public relations, or related field, or equivalent combination of relevant full‑time (or equivalent part‑time) work and educational experience
- 5+ years of professional experience managing social media platforms and producing original digital content
- Demonstrated experience creating short‑form video content for Tik Tok, Instagram Reels, and You Tube Shorts
- Experience with social media scheduling, community management, and analytics tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Teams, SharePoint)
- Master’s degree in a relevant field
- Experience managing social media in higher education, youth media, or brand storytelling contexts
- Fluency with Adobe Creative Suite or mobile video editing applications (e.g., Premiere, Cap Cut, Final Cut Pro)
- Familiarity with social media publishing and monitoring platforms
- Ability to conceptualize, produce, and manage engaging social content aligned with the HPU brand
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or managing student workers, interns, or creative teams
- Ability to analyze performance metrics and prepare regular reporting
- Strong time management, organization, and attention to detail
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance is not available for this position.
- This position may be considered an essential position with report‑to‑work obligations depending on the type of emergency, campus closure, or evacuation.
- Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
- Upon hire, candidate must have reliable personal transportation to facilitate travel between/to all HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position. This includes a valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle that is legally registered and insured.

1. Social media management and content creation (50%)
- Develop and oversee a social media content calendar in alignment with university priorities and strategic communication goals
- Produce short‑form video content and multimedia storytelling for Tik Tok, Instagram, You Tube, and other platforms
- Manage posting, scheduling, community engagement, and responses to comments, tags, and DMs
- Monitor social trends and identify opportunities for proactive engagement and storytelling
- Develop KPIs for growth and provide regular analytics reporting to track performance
2. Student social media lab supervision (40%)
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate student content creators, interns, and volunteers
- Lead student production teams at on‑campus events, athletic games, and storytelling opportunities
- Coach students on brand voice, editorial standards, content production, and digital best practices
- Assign tasks, manage deadlines, and ensure quality control for student‑produced work
3. Collaboration and brand consistency (10%)
