Job Type: Full-Time (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday)

Position Summary

The Textile Art Director is responsible for developing and preparing artwork and colorways for our Hawaiian textile collections. This position works closely with artists, our internal team, customers, and fabric mills to take designs from initial development through presentation and production.

  • Develop and prepare colorways for new and existing textile designs.
  • Work with artists on new artwork, design direction, revisions, and corrections.
  • Make artwork changes, color adjustments, and fixes as needed.
  • Understand textile printing requirements, including repeats, scale, color separation, and screen and digital printing.
  • Prepare production-ready artwork with an understanding of textile repeats, scale, color separation, and screen and printing requirements.
  • Coordinate artwork with fabric mills and review strike-offs and printed samples for color and overall accuracy.
  • Print and mount completed textile designs onto archive sheets for company records and copyright documentation.
  • Maintain organized files of artwork, colorways, revisions, approvals, and copyright records.
  • Work with the team to develop new collections, color stories, and design concepts for customer bulk orders and open line orders.
  • Communicate with artists, mills, and the internal team throughout the artwork development process.
Qualifications
  • Strong artistic eye with an excellent sense of color, composition, and pattern.
  • Professional experience in textile design, surface pattern design, or the Hawaii apparel/garment industry, with knowledge of Hawaiian, tropical, aloha, and resort-inspired design aesthetics, strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, including recoloring, editing, color separation, and preparing production-ready artwork.
  • Strong understanding of textile repeats, pattern scale, color separation, and fabric printing processes.
  • Ability to modify, correct, and prepare artwork for textile production while maintaining the integrity of the original design.
  • Experience developing multiple colorways from a single design.
  • Ability to review artwork and printed samples with a strong eye for color and design accuracy.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and file-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple artwork, colorway, and development projects simultaneously.
