Freelance Social Media Content Creator + Editor

Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi | Independent Contractor | Project-Based

Hānai Marketing Partners is looking for a creative, reliable Social Media Content Creator + Editor to help us create content for small businesses, nonprofits, and growing brands throughout Oʻahu.

This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career creator who already has examples of strong social media work and wants to grow their portfolio while working with a variety of Hawaiʻi businesses.

You’ll help take client content from shoot → edit → caption → publish.

Projects may include:

• Attending 1–3 hour shoots at client locations throughout Oʻahu
• Capturing vertical video and photography
• Editing Reels, Tik Toks, Stories, Shorts, photos, and other social content
• Adding music, captions, graphics, text overlays, and transitions
• Writing social media captions
• Formatting content for Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok, Linked In, Pinterest, X, You Tube, and other platforms
• Scheduling and publishing approved content
• Incorporating reasonable edits and client feedback
• Identifying spontaneous content opportunities while on location

This is a behind-the-camera position and does not require you to serve as on-camera talent.

You should:

• Live on Oʻahu and have reliable transportation
• Have examples or a portfolio of social media content you’ve created
• Understand short-form, social-first content
• Have a strong eye for composition, lighting, pacing, and visual storytelling
• Be comfortable writing engaging captions
• Be dependable, organized, responsive, and able to meet deadlines
• Be able to follow creative direction while also bringing your own ideas

Agency experience or a marketing degree is not required. We care more about your creativity, reliability, willingness to learn, and quality of work.

As an independent contractor, you will generally provide the equipment and software you use, including a smartphone and/or camera, computer, editing software, and any lighting, stabilization, or audio equipment needed for your workflow.

You do not need an expensive professional setup to apply. Great social content can absolutely be created with a smartphone.

If you’re a strong fit but don’t have access to a particular piece of equipment, don’t let that stop you from applying. Hānai Marketing Partners has some production equipment available and may be able to supplement your equipment depending on the project.

This is a project-based contractor position, with opportunities generally available a few times per month.

Most shoots will last approximately 1–3 hours, with editing, caption writing, and publishing completed independently afterward.

Projects may take place throughout Oʻahu. Contractors are responsible for their own transportation, mileage, fuel, and parking expenses.

Compensation is based on project scope, experience, and the complexity of the work. Typical starting budgets may include:

• Simple social assets: $50–$100+
• Edited Reels/Tik Toks/short-form video: $75–$150+
• On-location shoots: quoted separately or bundled into a project rate
• Larger or more complex projects may pay more

These rates are starting points, not ceilings, and we welcome applicants to share their preferred rates.
