This posting is being used to fill various Architect positions at the specified location. The authorized level of the position is Architect V. Applications are being accepted down to the Architect IV in case of recruiting difficulties.
Salary RangeArchitect IV, AR‑24: $8,465.00 – $10,804.00 per month. Architect V, AR‑26: $9,141.00 – $11,669.00 per month. The posted salary range indicates potential compensation, not necessarily starting salary. New external hires typically begin at the initial step. Placement above the initial step may be considered based on position requirements, exceptional qualifications, budget availability, and other relevant factors, all requiring prior approval. Current Hawaii State Department of Education employees will be placed according to Department regulations and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
ResponsibilitiesGraduation from an accredited school or college of architecture or engineering, with a degree in architecture or architectural engineering. Four years of successful and progressive experience in architecture which may be substituted for graduation if it demonstrates thorough knowledge of fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture and comparable to a full four‑year bachelor’s degree in architecture.
Experience RequirementsApplicants must have progressively responsible experience of the kind and quality described below and in the amounts shown.
- Architect IV: 3 years of architectural experience, 0 years supervisory, 0 years administrative, total 3 years.
- Architect V: 4 years of architectural experience, supervisory potential (rather than actual), 0 years administrative, total 4 years.
* For the Architect V level, supervisory potential rather than actual supervisory experience may be accepted. Supervisory potential is considered met when there is strong evidence of necessary supervisory aptitudes as demonstrated by outstanding performance on special assignments, self‑development programs, or affirmative appraisals by supervisors regarding leadership qualities.
Architectural ExperienceProfessional architectural work experience in developing and preparing complete designs, drawings, specifications, estimates of buildings, structure, and installations. Experience is based on the performance of the recognized architectural functions requiring thorough knowledge of the basic physical, mathematical and architectural sciences to solve practical problems.
