JOBSUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides perioperative cardiovascular surgical services for patients requiring cardiothoracic procedures. Operating rooms.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL- Surgically evaluates and treats patients who require the services provided by a cardiac surgeon.
- Maintains appropriate knowledge and clinical skills in order to keep abreast of new techniques and procedures in the field of Cardiovascular (CV) surgery.
- Makes rounds on CV patients in accordance with expectations of the Executive Vice President, Clinical Integration or designee.
- Provides clear instructions and explanations regarding diagnosis, treatment, medications, and follow‑up to patients and their respective family members.
- Provides communication regarding patient care issues to referring physicians in a timely manner.
- Actively participates in the Department of Cardiovascular Disease department’s on‑call schedule and assists with on‑call coverage for Vascular surgery.
- Attends departmental physician staff meetings, monthly morbidity and mortality, quality assurance, and other departmental meetings deemed appropriate by the Department Chief.
- Meets or exceeds The Society of Thoracic Surgery Database/report card mean as a benchmark.
- Participates in Accountable Clinical Management (ACM) activities as appropriate.
- Under guidance of the Medical Director, progressively learns surgical techniques and adopting best practices in the field of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
- Works collaboratively with the Medical Director of Queen’s Heart Physician Practice to ensure the quality of CV surgical services provided by the CV surgical subsection is achieved.
- Assists in the administration and care provision in endovascular interventions, structural heart procedures and possibly lead extraction.
- Maintains and promotes a work environment that provides maximum safety and health and encourages safety awareness.
- Reports unsafe conditions and injuries/illnesses and incidents in a timely and proper manner.
- Performs duties in accordance with safety and health rules and standards and uses safe work techniques.
- Charge tags and documentation all done timely, accurately, legibly and in compliance with QMC guidelines, CMS regulations, and PATH rules. Submits charge tags within 72 hours of services performed.
