The Physician (Psychiatry) serves in a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) providing examinations, diagnoses, and treatment of mental health disorders, substance abuse, and personality disturbances.

1. Clinical Duties:
The Physician is a technical authority delivering psychiatric care across diverse patient presentations, including inpatient, consultation liaison, partial hospitalization, day programs, emergency psychiatric services, tele‑psychiatry, and outpatient services. They recommend diagnostics, develop treatment plans, provide medication management, electro‑convulsive therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, individual and group therapy, and new emerging treatments. They monitor effectiveness, adjust plans, provide follow‑up care for psychosis, organic brain syndrome, substance abuse, addictions, and acute walk‑in cases, conduct biopsychosocial evaluations and prescribe pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatments.

The Physician provides referrals to other medical and mental health providers, collaborates with specialists, offers professional consultation, supervision, and collaborative support to psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other staff. They serve on Medical Evaluation Boards, assess fitness for duty, weapon handling, deployments, and communicate mental health issues to patient commands as required.

2. Administrative and Educational Duties:
The Physician participates in hospital‑approved behavioral health training programs, supervises residents, interns, medical students, psychology interns and other trainees, ensuring adherence to accreditation standards. They develop training guidelines, engage in scholarly research, participate in committees and meetings evaluating patient care, identify improvement opportunities, serve on quality assurance, risk management, and peer review programs, make recommendations for improvements, and present research at national conferences.

Other duties as assigned may include policy development and advisory services.

Eligibility: US Citizen. Must meet education and experience requirements.

Basic Requirement for Physician (Psychiatry): Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a U.S./Canadian accredited school. Foreign MDs must provide equivalent certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, USMLE qualification, or other recognized equivalency.

Licensure: Current, active, full, unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.

Graduate Training: At least one year of supervised clinical experience (internship or first year of residency) in a hospital or accredited institution after obtaining the medical degree.

Residency Training: Successfully completed accredited residency in Psychiatry with at least four years of experience. Residency experience may not be substituted.
