Responsibilities
  • In conjunction with the Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator, conduct research, training, and service in the area of measurement, assessment, and evaluation for elementary and secondary STEM education and special education.
  • Develop and pilot project-based assessment instruments, and refine to improve the quality of the instruments.
  • Create and maintain databases of multiple projects.
  • Facilitate and direct staff and graduate assistants on the collection and entering of qualitative and quantitative data to advance their knowledge and skillsets.
  • Analyze longitudinal, cross-sectional, categorical, latent, multivariate, or multilevel data to advance knowledge in the field of educational and disability research.
  • Analyze themes and patterns of qualitative data such as focus groups, interviews, and observations to deepen the understanding of educational phenomena for researchers and practitioners in the field of educational and disability research.
  • Recommend improvements based on the analyses to inform policies, at the national and/or local level, impacting the field of educational and disability research.
  • Write and disseminate technical data analysis reports to inform funders and researchers in the field of STEM and special education.
  • Compose school-based progress reports and briefs to inform stakeholders, project participants and other practitioners in the field of STEM and special education, of the project effects, impacts and successes.
  • Lead the evaluation and composition of project process and outcome evaluation reports to facilitate discussion and discourse in the field of STEM and special education.
  • Direct and implement project activities such as Saturday and after school sessions and Hawaii Department of Education break camps.
  • Publish and present research findings with project members to further understanding and best practices in the field of STEM and special education.
  • Maintain a research and scholarly profile as obtaining new state or federal grant funding to expand research, training, and services of the CDS with project members.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing in educational psychology, psychology, statistics, education, STEM or a related field.
  • Accuracy, alertness, and adaptability.
  • Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
  • At least one year of working experience in analyzing qualitative and quantitative data and writing data analysis reports.
  • Familiarity with a state or federal grant funded educational project.
  • Experience in administering surveys and conducting interviews, focus groups, and observations with students, teachers, parents or other community members.
  • Experience presenting and/or conducting workshops on evaluation process or results and/or on specific data analysis techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on assigned tasks, prioritize tasks, and see tasks through completion.
  • Ability to travel independently and in a timely manner to various geographical locations. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawai`i Driver's license (Class 3), comparable driver's license, or other means of transportation which meets position needs.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience in conducting research in Hawaii and/or Pacific Islands.
  • Experience in administering locally responsive evaluation and assessment.
  • Experience in conducting process and outcome evaluation and writing an evaluation report for a state or federal funded project.
