Duties and Responsibilities
* To provide instruction in MELE's Music Business & Production pathway and required program courses, which consists of but is not limited to the following discipline(s): music theory, music notation, songwriting, digital audio workstation (DAW) production in Logic Pro X & Pro Tools, audio visual media production, record label & music publishing operations, music supervision, public relations, advertising, marketing & promotion, social media, artist management & booking, concert & event production;
and to provide instructional and operational support in MELE's learning lab and recording studios. Responsibilities include development and review of curriculum as well as assessment of student learning.
* Work with colleagues to meet student needs in discipline or area of primary responsibility; provide college and community service; and participate in professional and self-development activities. Duties and responsibilities may include instructional assignments involving distance education, and credit and noncredit instruction.
* Related work activities include, but are not limited to, advising and counseling students, assisting in campus-related student activities; participating in faculty/administrative committees, community service, and in-service training; maintaining an approved program of professional self-improvement; collecting data and preparing reports; preparing/adapting/revising course objectives; independently planning, organizing, and carrying out instruction and non-instructional assignments; conducting course assessment and other assessments of instruction based on student learning outcomes and improve student learning based on results of assessment data.
* Maintain at least one office hour per day Monday through Friday. Must be available for evening, weekend, and off-campus assignments. Position will report directly to the MELE Program Liaison.
* Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
* Master's degree in music business, audio engineering technology, music technology, entertainment business, music industry administration, or sound recording; OR
* MBA and 1 year related industry experience; OR,
* Bachelor's degree in music business, audio engineering technology, music technology, entertainment business, music industry administration, or sound recording and 3 years related industry experience.
Desirable Qualifications
* PhD from an accredited college or university of recognized standing in discipline.
* Demonstrates knowledge of the subject matter, course content taught, and instruction of a music program.
* Demonstrates experience and familiarity with Hawaii's music industry.
* Evidence of successful teaching experience at the community college level or equivalent.
* Experience with learning communities and service learning.
* Experience in evaluating and selecting relevant and appropriate materials.
* Ability to utilize instructional technology and multimedia resources, including udiovisual and computers.
* Demonstrates ability in curriculum development using student learning outcomes and student-centered learning.
* Successful experience with assessment of student outcomes and program evaluation.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
* Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations and faculty/staff, including students with learning and other disabilities, and those from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.
* Demonstrates ability to work with others in a team (committees, clubs, community organizations, etc.).
* Understanding of the community college philosophy.
