Job Description

Appointment to begin approximately August 2025. The Physics and Astronomy (P&A) Department in the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa (UHM) invites applications for a permanent, full-time (9-month) non-tenure-track Instructor to begin approximately August 1, 2025. The ideal candidate will apply modern instructional methods to large service physics courses, will restructure the undergraduate curriculum, and design the undergraduate labs to integrate AI/ML, data science and coding tools.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Teach General Education and/or laboratory physics courses offered by the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

* Participate in department, academic, university, and community service.

* Mentor undergraduate students and supervising capstone projects.

* Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.

* Perform other instructional tasks or duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

* Master's Degree in Physics or equivalent from a college or university of recognized standing with the major work in the field in which the instructional assignment is made or duties performed

* Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.

* Successful teaching in the university level.

Desirable Qualifications

* Ph.D. in physics or equivalent terminal degree from a college or university of recognized standing.

* Previous experience overseeing a physics lab.

* Evidence in teaching in multiple modalities (online, face to face, hybrid, etc.)

* Experience in teaching diverse populations with interest in developing pedagogical skills to do so.
