Kamehameha Schools Kapālama Campus High School is seeking a Dean, Student Well-Being. The ideal candidate should be an experienced and student-centered educator with a minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching and/or school counseling experience at the K–12 level and a record of positive performance evaluations. Candidates should demonstrate a strong ability to support systemic change and lead reform initiatives that result in measurable gains in student achievement and the closing of opportunity gaps.

Experience serving effectively as a member of a school leadership team is essential, along with knowledge of small learning communities and data teams to support collaborative, data-informed decision-making.

To be successful in this position candidates must possess strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and manage diverse groups of stakeholders, including students, families, faculty, and staff. Knowledge of and experience with age-appropriate instructional strategies—such as differentiated instruction, project-based learning, and personalized learning—to support high-quality teaching and student success school wide.

Job Summary

The Dean, Student Well-Being is a leader responsible for contributing to and communicating a vision and focused plan for improving all aspects of student well-being including optimal instructional and behavioral supports to meet the needs of every student; creating a community of continuous learning for all staff and students; and fostering a culture of high expectations for all students. In addition, the Dean is charged with building strong partnerships with families and community, creating a safe, supportive school climate, and effectively managing operational, technical and staff issues to promote student engagement and learning progress.

Essential

Responsibilities Leadership
  • Leads and coordinates school resources to design intervention and enrichment opportunities to meet the needs of all student and subgroups of students.
  • Collaborate with administrative leadership team, initiate a strong sense of team, lead and serve on committees, as appropriate.
  • Support educator professional growth by modeling effective teaching methods through mentorship where appropriate.
  • Develop and foster community connections that will enhance the educational experience of all students.
  • Clearly communicate the school's vision and mission to your school community and maintain a positive school climate while promoting system accountability as needed.
  • Participate in professional development meetings as appropriate.
  • Advocate for children and actively embrace community involvement.

Implementation
  • Understand and communicate Kamehameha's E Ola! Learner Outcomes and supporting implementation of standards-based curriculum.
  • Plan and implement appropriate professional development as it relates to the school's strategic plan.
  • Support the principal in leading the implementation of the school's strategic plan.
  • Effectively balance flexibility and organization.
  • Assist in developing programs to promote positive students behavior as well as intervention strategies.
  • Implement and monitor Social Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies to support student success.
  • Create and/or assist in developing effective systems and/or procedures to support positive student/teacher intervention processes and/or programs.
Administrative
  • Under the direction of the principal, responsible for the design, oversight and implementation of the Multi-Tier System of Support at the school level.
  • In partnership with the principal and the school administration team, serve as the delegated school lead for Student Support Teams.
  • Supervise student activities throughout the year, including, but not limited to athletics, dances, performances, etc..
  • Analyze and understand student assessment data and effectively use it to inform actions within the school.
  • Collaborate with partners to implement Multi-Tier Student Support system (MTSS).
  • Effectively manage conflict within the school as appropriate.
  • Provide school-wide support related to standardized testing and the administration of other assessments.
  • Report issues to authorities as necessary, child abuse, suspicious activity etc.
  • Counsel students and parents about school policies.
  • Assist in monitoring and supervision of school facilities.
