Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Department Chair, the Assistant Professor will cultivate a course of professional growth as a teacher and scholar while performing service to the department, college, university, and community. They will engage in scholarship activities, with priority for those which engage and enhance the academic and professional development of students. Their primary field of instruction will be Marketing and a subfield in the other field (or in Operations).
The faculty member is encouraged to bridge the gap between management, marketing, operations, and strategic decision‑making. They are required to maintain competence in the academic field by remaining current in own and related disciplines and in the most effective instructional methods. They will demonstrate effectiveness in the synthesis, interpretation, and communication of new knowledge.
The role emphasizes the integration of technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
Faculty will work in collaboration with other faculty members to develop and improve the curriculum as well as manage student engagement and behavior. Faculty is also required to participate in university committees and initiatives, work with students at both the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as collaborate with other faculty members and industry professionals.
In addition to instructional and scholarly activities, they will participate in university service, including but not limited to, commencement, convocationsand other university-wide events, and department and collegiate meetings.
Faculty presence and engagement is expected during academic terms that faculty have teaching responsibilities.
This is a full‑time position with up to 24 credits of teaching over the academic year that runs from mid‑August to mid‑May. Regular faculty are nine‑month exempt employees paid over twelve months. This position would begin Fall 2026 (pending budget approval).

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- An earned doctorate or terminal degree in management, marketing, operations or related fields from an accredited University OR in exceptional circumstances have a masters degree and demonstrate appropriate professional training or experience equivalent to the terminal degree. (ABD candidates will be considered if degree is completed by August 2026).
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness
- Potential to conduct original research, scholarship, or creative work appropriate to the discipline
- Experience in academic and career advising and student mentoring
- Terminal degree with Marketing focus preferred
- Relevant experience as university faculty or researcher with record of scholarship in fields such as marketing, operations, management, leadership, international business, organizational behavior, or related fields
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Experience collaborating with colleagues to develop academic programs
- Demonstrated commitment to academic and career advising and student mentoring
- Demonstrated commitment to contributing to an ideologically and culturally diverse educational environment; experience working in Hawai’i is a plus
- Meaningful experience in industry/management in public or private sector
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance is not available for this position.
- Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU’s winter break, if necessary.
- This position may be considered an essential position with report to work obligations depending on the type of emergency, campus closure, or evacuation.
- Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
