Position: EDUCATION SPECIALIST (HUNTER & CONSERVATION RESOURCES) III - PEARL CITY, OAHU

Salary: $4,961 to $6,043 per month (SR-20, Step D-I).

Note:

Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Responsible for conducting and/or coordinating the various hunter education program activities. The work involves coordinating and conducting hunter education certification classes; providing support to volunteer instructors and resolving classroom problems; developing and presenting promotional and informational activities concerning hunter education, outdoor recreation, safety and related information as assigned by a higher level specialist; preparing informational and educational materials to promote the hunter education program;

participating in the development of mandated certification courses; and performing other education-related program activities as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Legal Authorization to Work: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Hunter Education

    Experience:

    Six months of responsible work experience in hunter education activities that demonstrated knowledge of legal requirements pertaining to hunting, basic principles of wildlife conservation and management, types and uses of firearms and other hunting methods, firearm/outdoor safety, and survival/first aid.
  • Education/Training

    Experience:

    One year of progressively responsible professional work experience in a program of training and/or education as an instructor, or other comparable professional position. Such experience must have involved and demonstrated knowledge of basic education or training methods and techniques, and the ability to identify education/training needs and provide instruction to students or groups, and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including speaking before groups.
  • Substitutions Allowed: Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements, will apply.
  • License: You must possess a valid license to drive in the State of Hawaii at the time of appointment.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Applicants must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds unassisted, and 80 pounds with assistance of another person and/or the use of equipment (e.g., hoisting equipment, hand truck, etc.) for heavier loads, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Firearms Requirement: Applicants must meet all Federal and State regulations pertaining to the carrying, use and possession of firearms and ammunition. Under the requirements of the Federal Firearm Gun Control Act, applicants for this position may not possess a conviction of domestic violence.
