PUEO scholars (grades 4-12) are middle of their academic class, free or reduced lunch eligible and first in their family to graduate from a 4-year college. They join the program as a cohort and return each summer for five weeks of summer learning at Punahou, earning HIDOE credit toward the goal of college readiness.
The PUEO cohort mentoring model incorporates progressive instructional practice, comprehensive learning and holistic engagement to foster our core value of pilina or belonging.
In addition to supporting engaging lessons, PUEO TA Kumu contribute to a variety of program-wide and cohort-based experiences that enrich scholars' learning and strengthen their sense of belonging to the program. These include, but are not limited to: the Buddy Program, Ambassador Day, Career Exploration Day, Field Day, Oli Days, Donor Engagements, End of Summer Celebration.

Summer School 2026, June - July - Work Hours:
Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM-3:00PM (Hours may vary depending on course) - Must attend Mandatory In Person Orientation:
- June 8, 9, 10 8:00 AM-3:00 PM
- Summer School Dates:
June 12
- July 17th, 2026 - Hourly Rate: $16.00/Hour
- Wednesday Teacher Talks Workshop, 3:15 PM - 4:00 PM
- Assists in the set-up and take-down of the classroom and preparation of classroom materials.
- Provides classroom support to the Lead Kumu.
- Possesses a respectful, responsible and resourceful disposition with a willingness and ability to improve based on feedback from the Kumu, PUEO Programs Coordinator and/or PUEO Director
- Fosters an environment in which scholars feel safe to investigate curriculum, discover the world in which they live and learn about themselves.
- Effectively and appropriately communicates with peers, Kumu, scholars, and parents and engages in positive collaboration with colleagues.
- Experience working with students is preferred.
