Now in its 22nd year, the PUEO Program embodies Punahou School's commitment to being a private school serving a larger public purpose through meaningful partnerships with other schools and educators. PUEO proudly employs teacher assistants (TA Kumu) from public and private schools across Hawai'i to engage scholars who are nominated for the multi-year Clarence T.C. Ching PUEO Program at Punahou School by Hawai'i Department of Education administrators and counselors.

PUEO scholars (grades 4-12) are middle of their academic class, free or reduced lunch eligible and first in their family to graduate from a 4-year college. They join the program as a cohort and return each summer for five weeks of summer learning at Punahou, earning HIDOE credit toward the goal of college readiness.

The PUEO cohort mentoring model incorporates progressive instructional practice, comprehensive learning and holistic engagement to foster our core value of pilina or belonging.

In addition to supporting engaging lessons, PUEO TA Kumu contribute to a variety of program-wide and cohort-based experiences that enrich scholars' learning and strengthen their sense of belonging to the program. These include, but are not limited to: the Buddy Program, Ambassador Day, Career Exploration Day, Field Day, Oli Days, Donor Engagements, End of Summer Celebration.
