Lecturers needed to teach the following courses this Fall 2026 semester:

1. BIOL 301 Marine Ecology and Evolution (3 cr)

Ecological and evolutionary factors creating and maintaining patterns of biological diversity in major marine ecosystems. Emphasis on the biphasic life histories of many marine organisms. The development of quantitative skills and critical thinking.

2. BIOL 301L Marine Ecology and Evolution Lab (2 cr x 3 sections)

3-hr lab:
Laboratory to accompany

BIOL 301.A significant portion of class time is dedicated to writing instruction, and requires a minimum of 4,000 words of graded writing.

3. MICR 351 Biology of Microorganisms (3 cr)

Anatomy, chemistry, physiology, genetics, development, and environmental interactions of microorganisms.

4. BOT 201 Plant Evolutionary Diversity (1 cr for 1/3 course load)

Significance of evolutionary trends in the plant world, including reproductive, morphological, and life history adaptations by algae, fungi, and vascular plants.

5. BOT 201L Plant Evolutionary Diversity Lab (1 cr for half course load)

Lab exercises in the morphology and systematics of land plants, fungi, and algae.

6. BOT 480 Algal Diversity and Evolution (4 cr x 3 sections):

Principles of algal diversity, structure, and evolution. Identification of common Hawaiian algae. Develops written communication skills with significant attention paid to developing writing skills and emphasis on writing instruction.

Minimum Qualifications

Available to teach the entire Fall 2026 semester;

0-1 years of experience teaching college-level courses;

BS degree, MS degree, or advancement to candidacy in a PhD degree in Biology, Botany, Microbiology, or related field;

General knowledge of one or more of the courses listed above.

Desirable

Qualifications:

Previous college-level teaching experience;

Online teaching experience, demonstrated teaching proficiency, strong scientific writing skills, demonstrated organizational skills;

PhD degree in Biology, Botany, Microbiology, or related field.

Duties and Responsibilities for all courses:

Teach course(s) and/or associated lab sections for the duration of the Fall 2026 semester;

Preparing and delivering lectures, writing and grading exams, and other assessments.

Meeting with students outside of class time;

Additional course-related duties.
