Conditions:
Contingent on course offerings and student demand, to begin approximately August 2026, pending position clearance, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. The position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Under general supervision, teach assigned Hawaiian language courses including design, delivery, and assessment in terms of student-learning outcomes; develop and/or update course content and materials and teaching and assessment strategies and methods to
* improve student attainment of learning outcomes;
* address the learning needs of the colleges diverse students;
* integrate thinking and writing skills into course content, as appropriate; and
* use multimedia resources.
* Teach courses in the Hawaiian Language through multiple modes of teaching (i.e., in-person, online, hybrid)
* Provide instruction and guidance to meet student learning outcomes, prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress;
* Assess student learning in terms of course competencies and program learning outcomes;
* Submit self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations;
* Work under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
* Integrate teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
* Maintain one office hour per week for each class taught (20 minutes per credit per week);
* Classes may be offered in-person, online, evenings, and/or weekends.
* Classes may be offered off-site as when required
* Non-teaching duties include:
* Working collegially to provide service to the department and college,
* Engaging in public service related to one's professional status and/or expertise
* Engaging in professional development, and
* Engaging in professional or scholarly activities related to one's discipline or teaching.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Functionally native oral and written fluency in Hawaiian, the ability to communicate in English, and one of the following:
* Master's degree in Hawaiian (language or literature);
OR,
* Master's degree in Hawaiian as a Second Language;
OR,
* Master's degree in the study of the culture or history of the people who speak Hawaiian;
OR,
* Master's degree in Linguistics, ESL, Education or another language. At least 12 credits of advanced coursework in second language methodology, Hawaiian literature, Hawaiian culture, or any combination thereof;
OR,
* Bachelor's degree in Hawaiian (language or literature)
AND3 years related work experience;
OR,
* Bachelor's degree in Hawaiian as a Second Language
AND3 years related work experience;
OR,
* Bachelor's degree in the study of the culture or history of the people who speak Hawaiian
AND3 years related work experience;
OR,
* Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, ESL, Education or other language. At least 12 credits of advanced coursework in second language methodology, Hawaiian literature, Hawaiian culture, or any combination thereof
AND3 years related work experience.

Minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of appointment.
