INTRODUCTION

The Vice Provost for Student Success is the senior student officer and policy advisor to the Provost on student success matters and provides the leadership, direction, planning and coordination of the units and programs supporting student co-curricular, student diversity and inclusion, and student academic success as well as collaborating with other vice provosts and directors on programs to ensure overarching campus goals and objectives are achieved.

The Vice Provost for Student Success is a member of the Manoa Cabinet and Provost's Council.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Student Success (OVPSS) provides leadership for the planning, direction, coordination, and executive management of all student service areas under the auspices of the Vice Provost for Student Success (VPSS) including student services administration. OVPSS has responsibility for the planning, direction, development, coordination, and management of programs aimed at increasing student well-being, and academic and co-curricular success at the University of Hawaii rent OVPSS programs include:

* Co-curricular services such a student center programs, career center, health services, residential life, counseling and student development, student conduct and children's center.

* Diversity and inclusion such as multicultural services, college opportunity and access programs, women's center, anuenue center, veteran student services, and many federal and state funded programs.

* Academic success including advising, first year support, learning assistance center, civic engagement and service, and commencement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as the chief campus student officer and policy advisor and a senior campus executive. Provides leadership in directing policies and procedures related to student success related programs and services in areas including but not limited to student co-curricular, student diversity and inclusion, and student academic success programs and initiatives. Promotes diversity, equality and affirmative action in all aspects of research and scholarship excellence.

Leads and directs student success related programs through the development of a philosophy that drives student success from admissions to graduation; development of governing policies; and the implementation of student program planning, implementation and management; the formulation of goals and objectives that meet student priorities; the oversight of fundraising and grant writing for student related programs and services; and the effective allocation of resources.

Encourages and develops new research initiatives, in providing an environment conducive to student success, and in establishing new student success programs and strengthening existing programs that considers national trends and student needs.

Assists the Provost and President in the development and implementation of long-range plans, goals, and objectives related to student success to improve the quality, direction and priorities of student co-curricular, diversity and inclusion, and academic success that complement teaching, research, and administration in full compliance with accreditation and higher education standards and requirements. Designs and oversees programs to ensure student diversity, access, and support for under-represented groups.

Fosters a vibrant student campus and academic climate, cultivating a student success environment in which effective, innovative and creative student services may flourish.

Ensures that day-to-day operations, administration and management are executed efficiently, and allocates and reallocates resources, as appropriate, in conformity with governing institutional priorities, applicable laws, rules and policies. Specifically, oversees the responsibility for statutory compliance by the programs under its purview with federal and state laws, the American Disabilities Act, Title IV, Title VI, Title IX, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, HIPAA, HITECH, and other statues governing non-discrimination and related compliance requirements.

Develops and recommends budget allocations and reallocation for student success programs ensuring that budgets are linked to campus strategic directions.

Has the authority to oversee and develop programs to serve students; develop, promulgate and enforce student policies; and to take actions to improve student services.
