Position OverviewGuided by the Student Handbook and the Characteristics of a Marianist Education, the Dean of Discipline ensures the faithful implementation of school policies, upholding principles of justice, compassion, and mutual respect. By fostering an atmosphere conducive to learning, the position helps to promote good attendance rates and address social and behavioral concerns, reflecting our commitment to the holistic development of each student.
In alignment with the Marianist philosophy of education, the Dean of Discipline plays a pivotal role in shaping a student culture characterized by diversity, empathy, and responsibility. Through leadership, the position helps students learn to embrace differences, respect one another, and cultivate leadership skills grounded in service and humility. Collaborating closely with campus security and other stakeholders, the Dean of Discipline also helps to ensure the safety and security of our school environment.
- Ensure that students comply with the Student Code of Conduct and disciplinary policies.
- Oversee Student Support Agreements, contracts, and support plans.
- Work closely with the Vice Principal of Discipline and the Dean of Discipline, 9‑12 on yearly updates to the Student/Parent Handbook and other documents.
- Monitor K‑8 student behavior in classrooms, hallways, lunch areas, Mass, and school events.
- Monitor K‑8 student dress codes.
- Research incidents of misconduct and determine appropriate disciplinary actions.
- Issue warnings, detentions, suspensions, and other corrective measures in line with school policy.
- Maintain accurate records of all disciplinary incidents and actions.
- Consistently implements before/during/after Saturday detentions.
- Develop and implement programs that promote good behavior, respect, and a positive school environment.
- Work with teachers to identify students who need behavioral support and provide intervention strategies.
- Work collaboratively with school counselors to support the academic, social, emotional and behavioral well‑being of students.
- Work in partnership with counselors to identify underlying causes of student behavior and develop intervention and support plans.
- Communicate with parents regarding student behavior, disciplinary actions, and progress.
- Collaborate with teachers to address ongoing behavioral issues and provide feedback on disciplinary matters.
- Attend all scheduled and special conferences with parents and counselors about behavioral and attendance issues.
- Mediate conflicts between students and staff. Identify and use conflict resolution strategies.
- Provide support to students in constructively resolving issues.
- Oversee K‑8 student attendance and address cases of chronic absenteeism or tardiness.
- Work with families and counselors to improve student attendance where necessary.
- Ensure the safety and well‑being of all students by monitoring any threats or dangerous situations.
- Work with school security staff to maintain a safe and secure learning environment.
- Attend all scheduled and special conferences about emergency procedures, parking, and security issues.
- Support all team members in the areas of Emergency Plan and Crisis Management
- Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field required.
- 3 years of previous experience in education, counseling, social work, or a related field.
- Prior experience handling student behavior or working in school administration is a plus.
- Prior experience working in Catholic schools is preferred.
