Job Overview
ARU Mentors are experienced college students who demonstrate exemplary leadership and passion to help others succeed. They serve as role models and positive resources for incoming students, communicating regularly to help them achieve goals and navigate their first year at UW‑Parkside. They engage in leadership and professional development activities and plan programming for mentees. The role is based in the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs.
Key Responsibilities- Critical Thinking – Problem solve and refer students to campus resources; create educational or social programs; provide challenge and support in conversations to foster student growth.
- Communications – Apply strong interpersonal and customer‑service skills; communicate weekly with assigned mentees via calls, texts, video chats, social media, or in person; meet at least 3–6 times per semester; communicate regularly with ARU Mentoring Program staff; submit a weekly summary report; facilitate events, outreach, and presentations for program planning.
- Teamwork – Collaborate with ARU staff and fellow mentees to create and execute programs; learn best practices; maintain the OMSA office and community areas.
- Leadership – Attend OMSA and ARU‑sponsored programs, mandatory events, and co‑create 1–3 SMART goals per semester; participate in at least one leadership or professional‑development event or workshop each semester; conduct office opening and closing procedures.
- Technology – Utilize Microsoft Office Suite, staff email, Outlook calendar, web‑conferencing programs (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams); use online mentoring technologies to communicate, check‑in on goals, and find resources.
- Professionalism – Attend weekly ARU staff meetings, training, and other related meetings; complete weekly summaries and clock hours on a timesheet; present professional presence; provide office support such as greeting visitors and answering phones; maintain confidentiality; perform other duties as assigned.
- Career and Self‑Development – Attend monthly one‑on‑one meetings with the Student Development & Engagement Program Specialist to develop personal and professional goals; manage time and responsibilities with limited supervision; complete a yearly performance evaluation.
- Equity and Inclusion – Participate in inclusive and equitable training and onboarding; interact mindfully with a diverse community of faculty, staff, co‑workers, and students.
$12 per hour. The position will remain open until June 30, 2026.
Required Qualifications- Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
- Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior in good standing at the university.
- Must be relatively flexible with availability of schedule.
- Must commit to a full academic year as a mentor.
