Kau-Keaau-Pahoa Complex: Grade 9-12 ALPSS Program Teacher

Job Overview

The 12‑month secondary teacher will teach students in grades 9–12 in the Complex Area Alternative Learning Program. This is a direct‑instruction position teaching multiple subjects in an integrated, problem‑based learning environment. The role requires the development of innovative curriculum and the use of engaging instructional strategies.

• Establish meaningful relationships with students to support growth and the development of strong SEL skills.

• Engage families and community partners as integral to the program’s success.

• Implement a program focus on sustainability, agriculture, and ag‑tech, requiring outdoor, experiential learning opportunities with students.

A bachelor’s degree is required and the minimum qualification to apply for a teacher position in the Hawaii State Department of Education. Applicants without completing a Teacher's Education Program must obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license within three years of hire and enroll in a program that aligns with the teaching line hired in.

Upon hire, a valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit is required.
