Graduate Research Assistant, 11-Month (Digital Archives) – Position Number: 0000GA11 – University of Hawai'i at Manoa, Library Services – Hamilton Library – Honolulu, HI.
Salary: $29,148 annually for 50% FTE (Step 15) as of Aug 1, 2026, $31,524 (Step 17) thereafter. Tuition waiver available if eligible.
Position Type: 11-Month Temporary, Part Time: 50% FTE, renewable annually under grant, contingent on funding and performance.

This position is created to support the Ka 'ohipohaku project funded by the Mellon Foundation, beginning July 2026 pending clearance.
Duties & Responsibilities- Utilize web archiving software (e.g., Archive-It, Web recorder) to capture social media and web content.
- Maintain organized records of archived materials, including metadata and contextual information.
- Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and applicable laws.
- Prepare periodic updates, presentations, and project reports; assist with research and writing for the final project report.
- Provide support for library and archival services: reference inquiries, user guidance, copy-cataloging, scanning, transcribing, basic research instruction.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Enrolled full-time in a graduate degree program at a University of Hawai'i campus at the time of hire and during the appointment; good academic standing; GPA ≥ 3.5.
- Pursuing a graduate degree in Library & Information Science, Hawaiian Studies, or Hawaiian Language.
- Strong interest in research and analytical skills (research, evaluation, survey, protocol design).
- Strong organizational, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills; attention to detail.
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn web archiving tools and technologies.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and community members.
- Experience with Google applications and related software.
- Working knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Hawaiian Studies, Ethnic Studies, or Political Science.
- Knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture and history.
- Experience with community consultation, oral history, or participatory research methods in Hawai'i.
- Completion of LIS 655:
Digital Archives or knowledge of digital preservation. - Technical experience with web archiving software, digital preservation tools, or metadata creation.
