Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as one of the co-course directors for the MD6 (Neuro/Locomotor/Behavioral) curricular unit.
- Plan and implement the contents and activities for the course, including PBL case development and modification.
- Appropriately assess student performance and provide necessary student remediation.
- Ensure that all aspects of the course are in-line with JABSOM's educational philosophy and advance students towards achievement of the JABSOM graduation objectives.
- Recruit, orient, and facilitate evaluation of PBL tutors.
- Participate as a member of the JABSOM pre-clinical education committee.
- Maintain and update the curriculum map and content maps related to the course.
- Recruit speakers for course lectures/seminars/workshops, work with OME staff to schedule sessions and communicate with speakers, and help to facilitate speaker evaluations.
- Assign tasks to supervise and evaluate Junior Course Directors assigned to their course.
- Facilitate PBL sessions as a tutor in at least one MD unit during the academic year.
- Contributes to the mission of the Office of Medical Education in the areas of faculty development, community service, and community outreach.
- Contributes to the preparation for LCMEaccreditation.
- Attend and participate in functions required of all OME faculty, such as Medical Education Grand Rounds, Faculty Meetings, and Convocation.
- Participate or lead educational task forces under the Office of Medical Education, the Curriculum Committee, or another educational subcommittee.
- Provide lectures or conferences/colloquia upon request.
- Evidence of effective teaching is required. This includes evidence of facilitating student-centered learning and demonstration of a positive attitude to student growth.
- Serve on JABSOM and/or University committees.
- Conduct scholarly work in medical education which may include research or curriculum descriptions. The scholarly work should be published and/or presented at peer-reviewed forums.
- Other duties as assigned (includes but not limited to participating in community engagement activities, directing office initiatives, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications
- M.D. or D.O. degree or equivalent medical degree from an accredited medical school.
- Relevant board certification in or qualification in the clinical discipline of the specific position.
- Demonstrated clinical and/or educational expertise in one or more of the following areas:neurology, musculoskeletal/sports medicine, or psychiatry
- Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others
- Excellent organizational skills
- Evidence of effectiveteaching
- Demonstrated potential for research/scholarship
- Experience using teaching methods such as problem-based learning, team-based learning, project-based learning, or another method that emphasizes active, self-directed learning
Associate Professor
- Same as Assistant Plus...
- In the rank of Assistant Professor, or four years of other health care experience, or a total of four years of teaching in the rank of Assistant Professor and other experience, or on year at the rank of Associate Professor at another health care school of recognized .standing .
- Proven ability in teaching, research, and program administration.
- Recognition for having made a significant scholarly contribution to the clinical specialty.
- Ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues.
- Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
