Other ConditionsThe Public Administration Program (PUBA), College of Social Sciences, University of Hawai‘i at Manoa invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor (F-3) or Associate Professor (F-4). This is a permanent, tenure track, full-time, 9-month, faculty appointment to begin August 1, 2026 (preferable) or January 1, 2027, subject to position clearance and availability of funds.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assistant Professor (F-3)
- Teach required and elective courses in public administration for the Master of Public Administration and Graduate Certificate in Public Policy;
- Advise and mentor students;
- Advise group Capstone projects;
- Provide assistance with practicum placements;
- Undertake scholarly and applied research, including publishing in leading public administration outlets and obtaining external research funding, consistent with the purposes of the Program and the College;
- Provide service to the Department, College, and University, and relevant professional communities;
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
- Associate Professor (F-4)
In addition to the duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Professor rank,
- Provide significant service to the college and community outside of the area of primary responsibilities.
- Sustain involvement in professional and self-development activities.
- Assistant Professor (F-3)
- PhD or equivalent in public affairs, public administration, public policy, or related field from an accredited college or university or foreign equivalent; ABDs will be considered but all degree requirements must be completed prior to the date of hire.
- Demonstrated ability to teach university-level courses;
- Demonstrated scholarly achievement;
- Demonstrated research and teaching interests in public administration and public policy;
- Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
- Associate Professor (F-4)
- Minimum qualifications of the Assistant Professor rank;
- A record of research achievement (publications, grants) commensurate with time in field.
- A minimum of four years of service as Assistant Professor or equivalent.
- Demonstrated public policy and public management research and teaching interests in Hawai‘i and the Asia-Pacific region;
- Interest in building an alumni network of public service leaders and in conducting research that benefits Hawai‘i and Asia-Pacific communities;
- Demonstrated concern about social responsibility;
- Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment.
