Job Summary :

The Library Technician supports the Tsuzuki Group Library (Upper School Library), ‘Iolani School Archives, and Sullivan Center (SCIL) Faculty Workroom. This person will provide administrative, technical, and general office support to the Librarians and Archivist, as well as promote a positive and service-oriented image within and outside of the library.

This position is primarily responsible for administrative, technical, and general office aspects of library and archives operations; such as circulation, acquisition processing, cataloging, file management, statistical reports, financial reports, and technical processing of library materials. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Technical processing of all incoming library materials, i.e., cover, barcode, apply proprietary markings, cataloging assistance, etc.
  • Process discards and weed periodicals.
  • Maintain the library budget ledgers and create monthly financial reports.
  • Manage requests and schedules for library instruction and collaboration centers while tracking their status.
  • Gather and analyze library usage statistics.
  • Provide front-line customer service by staffing the Library circulation desk (check-ins, check-outs, fines, etc.).
  • Perform shelving and shelf-reading duties to maintain organization using the Dewey Decimal System.
  • Maintain a database of Library and Archives vendors and services while serving as the initial point of contact for vendors.
  • Submit, receive, and track purchasing to Library and Archives vendors, as well as monitor, inventory, and purchasing of office supplies.
  • Monitor the library phone and email to serve as the initial point of contact for any inquiries.
  • Complete pickup and/or dropoff of interlibrary loan materials between the Upper School and Lower School libraries.
  • Assist in maintenance and troubleshooting of computer equipment and copy machines.
  • Supervise student library patrons and student interns as needed.
  • Perform a regular inspection of the library to ensure functionality and submit and track maintenance requests as needed.
  • Update and maintain department manuals and other workflow documents.
  • Collect, sort, and distribute mail for the Library and Archives staff.
  • Maintain the SCIL faculty workroom copy machines (replace printer cartridges, monitor and refill supplies, submit work orders and coordinate with vendors, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Associate’s Degree or two years of college.
  • Related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Familiarity with or ability to learn integrated library systems and Dewey Decimal.
  • Experience with purchasing and budget management.
  • Proficiency with Google Apps Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Calendar, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize duties or projects.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to see and hear within normal parameters with or without correction.
  • Full range of head, neck, and back movement; unrestricted ability to bend knees, raise arms above the head, and to move hands, fingers, and wrists.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds without difficulty.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for sustained periods of time.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Must successfully pass fingerprint background check and TB clearance due to working in proximity to children.
