Assistant/Associate Professor of Psychology (Non‑Tenure)

Exempt, Full‑time – 9‑month position

The responsibilities of this position comprise teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, actively participating in curriculum development, assessment, accreditation, and student activities such as regular office hours. Tenure‑track appointees are expected to maintain a program of active psychology‑related scholarship.

Dean of Education and Behavioral Sciences

• Teach 21 credit hours per academic year (undergraduate and graduate courses)
• Provide comprehensive academic advising
• Actively participate in University, School, and Department committees
• Participate in the accreditation process
• Participate in program assessment, curriculum development, and grant writing
• Actively develop scholarship (e.g., publications, conference presentations)
• Other duties and university service may be assigned by the Dean, within the scope of the Faculty Handbook

Minimum

• Doctoral Degree in Psychology, Counselor Education, or a closely related field. ABD candidates with documented progress toward completion may be considered.

Preferred

• Licensure:
  Must be licensed or license‑eligible as a Clinical Psychologist, Mental Health Counselor, or K‑12 School Counselor
• Two (2) years of teaching experience in a university/college setting
• Excellent record of teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
• Demonstrated potential for scholarly research
• Strong understanding and experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse students, especially those from Hawaii's local culture
• High integrity and ethical standards
• Ability to create and facilitate a meaningful learning environment
• Willingness to teach a variety of psychology and counseling psychology courses in a diverse educational setting
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Advanced skills in the use of computer software applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, SPSS) and learning management systems (Canvas) and internet tools
• Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize work and resources
• Ability to meet deadlines and interpret data and prepare reports
• Knowledge and experience in using common office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers

Duties involve light office and community work and require minimal physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, possess excellent motor skills and finger dexterity, and communicate effectively.

• Attend meetings and provide service as required for program, school, university, and area committees and work groups
• Willing and able to work occasional nights, weekends, and varying schedules; may require additional hours or schedule changes depending on project cycles and workflow demands of the department
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean
• Observe all safety and health regulations and work in accordance with university’s safe work procedures and policies; report unsafe acts/conditions and injuries promptly
• Adhere to all university policies while employed
• Respect and support the Catholic and Marianist identity of Chaminade University of Honolulu and perform duties consistently with Marianist educational values and mission; support the university’s service to Native Hawaiian and Pacific Island students
