Position Overview
This posting seeks to fill various Educational Assistant positions in early learning classrooms on school campuses that support the Executive Office of Early Learning (EOEL) Public Prekindergarten Program. The authorized level is Educational Assistant III, with applications accepted down to Educational Assistant I in the event of recruiting difficulties.
Responsibilities- Cultivate healthy, challenging learning environments and experiences; converse with children positively during activities and routines; greet children upon arrival and ensure safe departure.
- Instruct and model appropriate behavior; encourage positive social rapport; assist children during transitions and routines; address conflicts between children.
- Engage with children during play to promote development and learning in all domains of development.
- Implement and assess learning experiences based on plans and goals established with or by the teacher; set up activities for indoor learning centers, small or large group activities, and outdoor activities; supervise and conduct group and individual learning activities.
- Observe children and document/assess their development and learning; collect data as directed by the teacher.
- Ensure overall health and safety; assist children with toileting, handwashing, eating, resting, and playing; sanitize materials and surfaces when needed; help children manage stressful situations.
- Prepare and maintain materials and environment for learning experiences; organize and prepare learning centers as guided by the teacher; observe use of materials and provide modifications and adaptations.
- Supervise before, during, and after class activities.
- Possession of a current Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential.
- Successful completion of training for a certificate that meets CDA Credential preparation requirements, including 120 hours of formal early childhood education training covering growth and development of children ages 3 to 5.
- Enrollment in a program, coursework, or training preparing for a CDA Credential, with evidence of active pursuit provided annually to EOEL.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- One of the following:
- Successful completion of an approved examination (Para Pro or Para Pathways Assessment) provided by the Education Testing Service.
- At least 48 baccalaureate-level semester credits (including 3 credits in mathematics and 3 in English) from an accredited institution.
- An associate degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Educational Assistant I: 0 years general experience, 0 years specialized experience.
- Educational Assistant II: 1 year general experience, 0 years specialized experience.
- Educational Assistant III: 1 year general experience, 1 year specialized experience (used to define specialized experience for each level).
General
Experience:
Paid or volunteer experience involving direct interaction with people and demonstration of communication, observation, evaluation, and reporting skills (e.g., school committees, youth groups, parent/teacher meetings).
Specialized
Experience:
Work experience providing direct academic, personal, social, vocational, or behavioral services to children, students, or individuals with disabilities, preferably in an educational setting.
- Educational Assistant I, SR-10: $3,019.78 per month
- Educational Assistant II, SR-12: $3,260.76 per month
- Educational Assistant III, SR-14: $3,526.98 per month
