The Assistant Teacher will collaborate with teachers to support student learning outside of the classroom. The Assistant Teacher’s primary role will be to help provide a safe learning environment by supporting experiences on the outdoor areas, in outdoor classroom settings, and other areas of the school. In the outdoor areas, the Assistant Teacher actively ensures the safety and well‑being of students, play areas and grounds for safety.
In supporting our outdoor classroom environments, the Assistant Teacher will collaborate with teachers to create a teaching team environment that allows for more flexibility and increased opportunities for student‑teacher interaction and a high quality program of instruction and student support. The ideal candidate will understand the developmental stages of children, be able to use multiple teaching strategies to provide for a range of student needs, develop and support a positive learning environment, and communicate effectively and sensitively with students to support their learning.

Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM - Minimum Salary Range: $35,575 - $68,917. Punahou School offers a comprehensive total rewards program that includes competitive pay. The pay rate reflects the range of pay for faculty, which is dependent upon educational attainment and years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
- CPR Certification preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience supervising students in an elementary or middle school setting.
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; an understanding of the developmental needs of young children, sensitivity to each individual student’s needs; and ability to appreciate the variety of perspectives offered by individual viewpoints, disciplines and cultural understandings.
