Location:
Manoa Temporary, part-time work, as needed, contingent upon student enrollment, position availability and funding. May be for day, evening, or weekend offerings on- and off-campus. Selectee is required to complete the COE New Faculty orientation in the first year and pass a criminal background check and Title IX training.
The School Counseling and Rehabilitation Counseling programs prepare graduate students to become licensed professional counselors, including school counselors and rehabilitation counselors who provide responsive, evidence-based services in PK-12, rehabilitation counseling and community mental health settings. Instruction in these programs incorporates multiple delivery modalities—including face-to-face, online synchronous, and online asynchronous formats—and emphasizes the preparation of practitioners who can meet professional, ethical, and accreditation standards.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Teach various graduate level counseling courses in School and Rehabilitation Counseling.
- Prepare course syllabi that meets COE accreditation expectations and Hawai'i state licensing standards.
- Mentor and assist students.
- Complete grades on a timely basis.
- Attend faculty meetings and other duties that the supervisor assigns.
- A Master's degree in Counseling or related field from an accredited college or university of recognized standing, with work as a counselor; equivalent experience in a relevant area will be considered.
- An active license or certification in the counseling area of expertise (e.g., School Counselor, Mental Health Counselor, Rehabilitation Counselor), or related field, or the ability to attain a relevant license or certification within 6 months to 1 year of hire.
- Evidence of ability to teach effectively and to direct group discussions.
- Professionalism when meeting and conferring with others.
- Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Doctorate in Counselor Education or a closely related field from an accredited college or university of recognized standing.
- Experience teaching in higher education at the undergraduate and graduate level.
- Experience mentoring and supervising Counseling students in the field.
- Experience teaching online.
