Visiting Faculty (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Instructor/Assistant Professor) and Program Coordinator for Public Health Program
Chaminade University of Honolulu is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a position of Visiting Lecturer/Program Coordinator to oversee Bachelor of Science in Public Health and future Public Health Programs. This is an onsite position based in Honolulu, HI in the School of Nursing and Health Professions.
The Public Health Program Coordinator provides leadership, coordination, and administrative oversight for the Bachelor in Public Health (BSPH) academic programs. This role supports program growth, accreditation readiness, curriculum alignment, faculty development, student support, and community partnership engagement. The coordinator ensures program quality, compliance, and continuous improvement through collaboration with faculty, staff, university leadership, students, and community stakeholders.
The responsibilities of this position include teaching courses in the School of Nursing and Health Professions in public health and related fields. As a faculty member, the faculty is expected to participate actively in curriculum development and assessment, to advise students, serve on university and area committees, perform all duties professionally and ethically, and support the policies and mission of the University.
In addition, the faculty is required to contribute and produce scholarship and continue professional development as a faculty member.
Duties and responsibilities outlined include:
- Teach the required work load credits per semester as assigned.
- Actively participate in division and university related activities and committees, the accreditation process, curriculum development, and scholarship (teaching, grant writing, research, publishing, and community service).
- Adhere to duties as described in the Faculty Handbook.
- Develop a professional development plan and demonstrate a trajectory that promotes scholarship, community service and life-long learning.
- Remain current in the latest industry practices, standards, equipment, research, and technology.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Deans of the School of Nursing and Health Professions.
- Serve as the Public Health Program Coordinator
Program Coordinator responsibilities include:
- Provision or delegation of responsibilities to assure year-round coverage of coordinator responsibilities in the absence of the coordinator or in cases where the coordinator's full-time appointment does not cover all 12 months. In programs where the program coordinator assigns some responsibilities to other individuals, the coordinator must ensure that all program director responsibilities are accomplished throughout the year.
Program Leadership & Administration
- Provide strategic direction and operational oversight for the Public Health academic programs, ensuring alignment with university goals and public health workforce needs.
- Coordinate activities across faculty, staff, students, and community partners to ensure smooth program operations.
- Oversee program evaluation, continuous quality improvement, and reporting to university committees and external stakeholders.
- Develop, manage, and monitor the program budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
- Lead program accreditation efforts, including research, planning, and documentation preparation for accreditation (e.g., CEPH).
- Development of policies and procedures for effectively managing all components of the program and to ensure fair, equitable and considerate treatment of prospective and enrolled students (such as program admission, retention and completion policies).
- Maintenance of complaints about the program received from students or others, including disposition of the complaint;
Curriculum Management & Academic Planning
- Lead curriculum review, revision, and implementation, including updating PLOs, CLOs, and course sequencing.
- Submit program changes and curriculum proposals to the Curriculum Committee, FAAW Committee, and Academic Counsel.
- Update degree requirements, minors, and course information per university guidelines.
- Build and update BSPH courses in Canvas to ensure consistent and high-quality instructional design.
- Coordinate FLEX program planning, orientation, and faculty hiring for FLEX courses.
- Meet regularly with the Advising and Admissions teams to align program curriculum with recruitment, retention, and student success needs.
Faculty Support, Hiring & Development
- Plan and lead Public Health faculty meetings and advisory board meetings regarding program initiatives, curriculum changes, and student outcomes.
- Hire, interview, and onboard new Public Health faculty (including FLEX and adjunct faculty).
- Train faculty on university systems (e.g., STELLIC) and program expectations.
- Mentor new BSPH faculty to ensure instructional quality and successful integration into the program.
