Responsibilities- Community of Faith:
Supports and implements the mission and philosophy of Catholic education and the school; gives evidence of lived Gospel values; participates in building faith community. - Instructional Process:
Demonstrates thorough lesson planning aligned with departmental and school‑wide goals; presents scientific concepts clearly using varied strategies that promote inquiry, critical thinking, and problem‑solving; designs formative and summative assessments; adjusts curriculum and instructional strategies to meet individual student needs, including differentiation and accommodations; motivates students and fosters curiosity through hands‑on, experiential, and project‑based learning; maintains a safe, organized classroom environment with proper laboratory and safety practices;
integrates appropriate technology and scientific tools; demonstrates understanding of the Rigor, Relevance, and Relationship Framework in science instruction; aligns instruction with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and college‑preparatory expectations. - Interpersonal Relationships:
Works cooperatively with administration; positively with colleagues, support staff, and parish staff; demonstrates positive interpersonal relations with students and parents. - Professional Responsibilities:
Designs and delivers engaging, student‑centered science instruction aligned with frameworks and NGSS; implements assessments for mastery and growth; prepares lesson plans and activities incorporating hands‑on and project‑based learning; differentiates instruction; fosters an inclusive classroom; provides academic support; monitors and evaluates progress; serves as mentor/advisor through the Advisory Program; supervises to ensure student safety; collaborates on curriculum and interdisciplinary initiatives; participates in professional development;
contributes to the school community via extracurriculars and events; focuses on professional growth; keeps abreast of curriculum developments; interacts with colleagues to grow; takes advantage of professional improvement opportunities; completes necessary work toward obtaining and/or maintaining a valid teaching license.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required;
Master’s degree preferred, with 3–5 years of teaching experience in a school setting. - Demonstrated experience teaching high school science courses such as Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics.
- Strong content knowledge in science and ability to translate complex concepts into engaging instruction.
- Familiarity with effective instructional methodologies for high school science learners, including inquiry‑based and project‑based learning.
- Knowledge of differentiation strategies supporting diverse learners and promoting equitable access to rigorous science instruction.
- Effective communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and contribution to the broader school community.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle, and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Teachers must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods. May need to climb stairs and lift, carry, push and/or pull items up to 25 pounds. Must be able to respond effectively to and lead the class in emergency situations.
