Responsibilities
Provide personalized, rigorous, high‑impact, standards‑based instruction for secondary students (grades 6‑8) using evidence‑based experiential and project‑based methodologies to meet course and promotion requirements. Lead the development of multidisciplinary curricula that prioritize academic standards, social‑emotional growth, post‑secondary readiness, and active community and parent collaboration to meet the needs of all students participating in the program. Perform Accountability, Impact and Monitoring (AIM) activities, and deliver instruction outside the traditional classroom setting when required.
Qualifications- Minimum qualification:
Bachelor's Degree. - If hired before completing a Teacher's Education Program, must obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license within 3 years of hire.
- Candidate must enroll in a state‑approved teacher education program (SATEP) and demonstrate ongoing progress toward licensure each year of employment.
- Upon hire, must hold a valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit.
- 10‑month salary schedule consistent with the Bargaining Unit 05 for a 10‑month work year.
- 18 days of paid sick leave (6 of which may be used for personal or professional development). State and federal holidays are observed.
- State subsidises part of medical, drug, vision, and adult dental plan premiums for eligible employees.
- Free state‑provided life insurance policy for employees and retirees.
- Premium conversion plan: deduct health‑care premiums before payroll taxes are withheld.
- Flexible spending account option for federal and state income tax savings.
- State contribution to a retirement plan for eligible employees (criteria based on credited service and age). 10‑year service may qualify employees for 62‑year retirement, or 30 years and age 55 for earlier retirement.
- Tax‑shelter annuity (TSA) and deferred compensation program available to eligible employees.
- Temporary disability insurance for non‑work related injuries or illnesses.
- State social‑security contributions.
- Workers’ compensation benefits for job‑related injuries.
- Union and collective bargaining representation available for 12‑month teachers through the Hawaii State Teachers Association.
