Job Summary

The Student Success Librarian at Hawai?i Pacific University’s Library & Learning Commons plays a vital role in advancing student learning, engagement, and academic success. This position serves as a primary point of contact for research assistance, library instruction, outreach, and student engagement initiatives, working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and campus partners to support student achievement and retention. The Student Success Librarian is responsible for providing research consultations, delivering library instruction, developing learning materials, coordinating outreach and engagement activities, and assessing student needs through surveys, focus groups, and other feedback mechanisms.

The position serves as the library's lead coordinator for student-facing programs, events, displays, and marketing efforts designed to increase awareness and use of library resources and services. In addition, the Student Success Librarian supervises and mentors student employees, collaborates with the Center for Academic Success, Student Life, and other campus departments, and contributes to the continuous improvement of library services, programs, and spaces.

Responsibilities include supporting student worker training and development, assisting with public services operations, participating in assessment activities, and recommending service enhancements based on student feedback and institutional priorities. The role requires strong communication, instructional, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to manage multiple projects, build collaborative relationships, and develop innovative approaches to supporting student success. The ideal candidate will be student-centered, highly organized, adaptable, and committed to fostering an inclusive, welcoming, and engaging learning environment for a diverse student population.

Location

This position will be based out of our downtown Honolulu campus sites - Waterfront Plaza and Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program, or equivalent degree from an internationally recognized institution, conferred by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success, teaching, learning, and user-centered services.
  • Experience providing customer service and working directly with diverse populations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Aptitude for learning and applying emerging technologies, instructional tools, and library systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners.
Desired Qualifications
  • Academic library experience through professional employment, internships, practicum experiences, graduate assistantships, or student employment.
  • Experience providing library instruction, teaching, training, presentations, or workshop facilitation.
  • Experience conducting outreach, marketing, event planning, student engagement activities, or public programming.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, training, or leading student employees, peer mentors, volunteers, or project teams.
  • Experience with research assistance, reference services, information literacy instruction, or learning support services.
  • Familiarity with library technologies, discovery tools, learning management systems, productivity software, and assessment tools.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, or utilizing assessment data, surveys, focus groups, or user feedback to improve services.
  • Commitment to inclusion, belonging, and serving the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, adaptability, and problem‑solving skills.
Other Qualifications
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Report‑to‑work obligations may be required to support the department and university operations during emergencies, special events, or critical periods.
