Immediate vacancies are with the Department of Health and are located in Waipahu to Aiea, Kaneohe to Kualoa, and Halawa to Kalihi.

Salary: $5,633 to $6,455 per month (SR-20, Step D to I).

• Provide culturally competent and family‑centered educational services for infants and toddlers with special needs and their families.
• Work as a member of a transdisciplinary team and perform work in the child's natural environments.
• Provide evaluation, consultation, and treatment services.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and community groups to ensure a smooth transition for infants and toddlers and their families.
• Provide expertise in special education to enhance a child's overall development, focusing on personal‑social skills, cognitive development, learning styles, and behavior.
• Provide culturally sensitive family‑centered care coordination and exercise independent judgment in the assignment of duties and responsibilities for a full range of cases.

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the state government to be citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university with a major in human behavior or in a social science. Must have included a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in psychology and/or education, including coursework in the learning process and child growth and development.

Specialized

Experience:

• Six (6) months of professional teaching experience instructing a class of students with developmental disabilities, including managing small groups of students, assisting in planning and preparation of instructional materials, and providing individual instruction.
• OR satisfactory completion of practice teaching at an accredited college or university and completion of 12 additional semester credit hours in Special Education with specialization in students with developmental disabilities;
• AND possess one (1) additional year of experience teaching students with developmental disabilities comparable to the II level in State service, involving lesson‑plan development, teaching units, and overall classroom management.
• OR satisfactorily complete 12 semester credit hours in Special Education with specialization in students with developmental disabilities from an accredited college or university, and have one (1) year of experience as a professional teacher (not necessarily with students with developmental disabilities) that demonstrates planning, preparing, and independently operating a classroom.

Driver’s License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
