RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide consistency in the absence of primary teachers in implementing our curriculum and maintaining a strong and healthy school culture
OUTCOMES- Substitute plans are followed with care and quality
- Students experience an intellectually and physically safe learning environment
- Critical information is communicated to primary teachers
- Use technology proficiently
Minimum:
- Two years or more experience working with middle school-aged children
Preferred:
- Bachelors degree or higher
- Significant professional experience in content area
- Three or more years experience teaching at the middle school level
- Valid Hawaii Teaching License in a subject area of instruction
- Experience working with students with special needs
Specific responsibilities will vary based on coverage needs, but may include:
- Lead a student-centered classroom with an emphasis on inquiry, classroom collaboration, and self-exploration.
- Implement research-based, standards-aligned curriculum that enables students to develop content-specific skills, tools, and knowledge.
- Support a project-based, interdisciplinary, multi-age Essential Question of Sustainability course alongside several other teachers with varied content expertise.
- Serve as a mentor/advisor to a group of students in Advisory, which includes supporting student success, health, happiness, and intellectual safety.
- Participate with students in morning Physical Activity.
- Implement classroom, school, and behavior management strategies as necessary that are aligned with SEEQS's philosophy of Community-Building, Reflection, Logical Consequences, and Restorative Justice.
The Substitute Teacher role is a casual hire position. Hours for the role are between 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM, with partial days possible.
Employment Type: On Call
COMPENSATIONSubstitutes are paid as Class I, Class II, or Class III. Hourly rates are $22.88, $24.90, and $26.91, respectively. Full-day subs are paid for 7 hours at the hourly rate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITIONThe role requires the employee to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach above the shoulders, walk short distances, climb stairs, listen effectively, speak clearly, and visually observe staff and students on a routine basis. Accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
