Preferred Qualifications

Valid Hawaiian Immersion license from the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board.

Fluent in the Hawaiian language.

The Hawaii State Department of Education requires a Bachelor's Degree for all teacher, librarian, or counselor positions, except for designated Career and Technology Education (CTE) positions.

If hired without completing a Teacher's Education Program, applicants have a maximum of three years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license. They must enroll in a program to continue employment with the Department and, within each year of employment, must demonstrably pursue meeting Hawaii licensing requirements per the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB). It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure the program is aligned with the teaching line hired for.
