Casual Hire Japanese Language Instructors, part‑time, located on Manoa Campus. Salary: $39–$47 per hour.
Duties and Responsibilities- Instructors:
- Prepare for and teach all scheduled classes according to the established curriculum guidelines.
- Develop lessons and curriculum as needed.
- Assist students with course material outside of regular class hours as needed.
- Complete program‑related administrative responsibilities (maintain attendance records, communicate with office, help plan and participate in program events).
- Participate in faculty meetings as assigned.
- Assistant Lead Instructor (all of the above, plus):
- Assist other instructors with their courses.
- Distribute course fliers for posting.

- Coordinate handling of Japanese conversation partners.
- Communicate with staff for planning and running the courses.
- Functionally native oral and written fluency in Japanese.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in English.
- A minimum of one year of experience teaching Japanese.
- Bachelor’s in Education, Linguistics, or a related field from a four‑year institution in Japan or the US.
- Familiarity with the Zoom application.
- Demonstrated ability to work with adult learners and communicate clearly.
- If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting the minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis.
- A few years of post‑secondary teaching experience.
- Master’s in Japanese, Linguistics, Education, Second Language Studies, or a related field.
- Certificate in Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language (TJFL) or Teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language (TEFL/TESL).
- Familiarity with communicative language teaching approaches.
