Position: Instructor, CC (Occupational and Environmental Safety Management

Title

Instructor, CC (Occupational and Environmental Safety Management (OESM))

Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and teach courses in the OESM program.
  • Work under guidance of colleagues to understand student needs and develop learning outcomes.
  • Work independently to select and implement instructional strategies that meet student needs.
  • Develop curriculum and align courses with college objectives.
  • Prepare, develop, revise, and implement course outlines, syllabi, and related materials as needed.
  • Serve as faculty mentor to students.
  • Maintain subject‑matter currency and continually update courses to meet industry demands.
  • Assist in developing courses that prepare students for industry certifications.
  • Perform regular course assessments and participate in ongoing program and institutional assessment, adjusting content and practice to improve learning.
  • Participate in departmental, industry advisory, and division meetings.
  • Perform related work activities such as course scheduling, program budgeting, maintaining program articulation agreements, and contributing to faculty/administrative committees.
  • Collaborate with campus and off‑campus organizations to develop courses for targeted groups and to teach non‑credit courses.
  • Instruction may involve distance education and Early College high‑school instruction; background checks may be required for HIDOE schools.
  • Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class and be available for evening and weekend assignments, off‑campus instruction, and online instruction. This position is not remote.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related discipline;
  • or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related discipline plus three years of related work experience;
  • or Associate’s degree in OESM plus five years of related work experience;
  • or 15 college credits plus seven years of related work experience, including training.
Desired Qualifications
  • Willingness to keep abreast of technical development in the field of OESM.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues from other disciplines, student support services, and industry partners.
  • Evidence of successful teaching in a community college or postsecondary setting.
  • Experience developing or modifying college‑level courses.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Supportive attitude toward student learning and ability to create a nurturing classroom environment.
  • Success serving as a mentor, advisor, or team leader.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to function independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with technology to support instruction and student success (lms, crm, early alert, presentation software).
  • Willingness to adapt to new technology platforms as needed.
