For lecturer pool. Kawaihuelani Center for Hawaiian Language, UHM, non-tenurable, contingent upon sufficient registration, position availability and funding, with possibility of renewal.
- Teach elementary and/or advanced levels of Hawaiian language
- Maintain at least one office hour per week for each course taught
- Attend departmental meetings
- Participate in language activities
- Other duties as assigned
- BA in Hawaiian language or in an academic discipline necessary for the support of the current and future curricula of Kawaihuelani.
- Demonstrate a high degree of fluency and proficiency in written and spoken Hawaiian.
- Demonstrate significant knowledge of Hawaiian culture and its link to Hawaiian language.
- Have successful experience in teaching (as substantiated by recent student evaluations, peer evaluations and/or current professional references) and/or demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate courses and mentoring students in Kawaihuelani.
- Demonstrate the potential for excellence in developing curriculum for use in undergraduate courses in Kawaihuelani.
- Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in Hawaiian and English.
- Demonstrate the ability to meet multiple deadlines effectively.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and administration as well as to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty, staff and administration as substantiated by recent student evaluations, peer evaluations and/or current professional references.
- Demonstrate excellence in teaching Hawaiian language.
- Demonstrate excellence in developing curriculum for use in undergraduate courses in Kawaihuelani.
- Demonstrate fluency & proficiency in Written and spoken Hawaiian.
- Experience in teaching Hawaiian language courses.
- Submit cover letter indicating how you satisfy the minimum and desirable qualifications;
- 3 current letters of reference, at least one of which attests to the fulfillment of the minimum and desirable qualifications and;
- Official transcripts (copies are ok for application, but official required upon hire). All submitted materials become the property of the School.
