Position Overview

Kalakaua Middle School is seeking a passionate and dynamic Middle School Alternative Learning Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering a positive learning environment and adept at addressing various learning styles. Our alternative learning program is designed to support students who may not thrive in a traditional classroom setting by offering personalized and innovative teaching approaches.

As the Alternative Learning Teacher, you will work with students in all core content areas while incorporating hands‑on learning projects, including gardening, cooking, physical activities, and art projects.

The Hawaii State Department of Education requires a Bachelor’s Degree for all teaching positions (except designated Career and Technology Education positions). If you are hired without completing a Teacher’s Education Program, you have a maximum of 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license. You must enroll in a program that aligns with your teaching line and, within each year of employment, must show active pursuit toward meeting Hawaii licensing requirements as set forth by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board.
