Job Duties

The Social Sciences Librarian provides a variety of professional library services including research instruction, research help, online class support, and collection development. The position focuses on serving social science students and faculty, particularly the Teacher Education and Psychology departments, and will serve as a field trip liaison for visiting K-12 students and other groups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serves as a liaison to academic disciplines (especially Teacher Education and Psychology) and other campus units, providing information on collections, instructional and research support, and library services.
  • Coordinates and leads library tours, library instruction, and other activities for K-12 and other visitors.
  • Works with Admissions and other campus offices to bring visitors to campus.
  • Designs, develops, and delivers instruction in a variety of formats to faculty, staff, students, and other patrons.
  • Provides general and specialized research help services.
  • Develops and curates collections related to liaison areas.
  • Obtains materials, resolves issues, and answers questions, particularly related to complex situations.
  • Contributes to the development of policies and procedures.
  • Cultivates and maintains productive collaboration with professional colleagues.
  • Serves on committees to advance librarianship or broader higher education goals at the campus, local, state, and/or national levels.
  • May handle lifting books or equipment up to 30 pounds and engage in moving books, pushing book carts, reaching overhead, and bending to the floor.
  • May direct day‑to‑day activities of student workers.
Required Qualifications
  • MLIS or MIS or equivalent degree from an ALA‑accredited graduate program by position start date.
  • Experience providing service to patrons in a library.
  • Interest in working with students and instructors in Teacher Education, Psychology, social sciences, and related fields.
  • Interest in organizing and leading tours and field trips.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and current technology skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in small groups or teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience preparing and delivering presentations, preparing online instruction, and providing research help services.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in academic or library AI applications.
  • Experience working in an academic library.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents.
  • Experience working with a diverse population.

$50,000-$52,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
