Position SummaryAs a team member of the Office of Student Success, the Advisor engages undergraduate students in promoting all dimensions of student success. In addition to general advising duties, the Advisor also assists with various aspects of the including but not limited to specific duties related to transition, retention, progression, and post-commencement planning.

The Advisor will be responsible for general advising duties as well as other duties required to meet the needs of all undergraduate students at the University.
General Advising Duties (70%)- Offer advice and guidance on selecting courses and academic programs while encouraging exploration of various majors
- Communicate curricular requirements for general education and academic programs (including possible requirements for graduate programs in conjunction with the Office of Undergraduate Research & Pre-Professional Programs)
- Understand and interpret University policies and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality and understand the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Educate students on understanding University policies and procedures (emphasis on Academic policies & procedures
- Plan, monitor and aide students in progression towards graduation (assist and educate student's understanding of academic/program requirements)
- Assist with various academic waiver/approval processes (prerequisite, concurrent, registration, credit overload)
- Work collaboratively with divisions, staff, and faculty across campus; refer/connect to support systems that promote overall student success
- Maintain systematic, frequent, and intentional contact with advisees through multiple methods
- Document advising sessions/interactions with students (in student success platform)
- Monitor and administer appropriate interventions when student concerns arise as identified through Early Alert process (platform)
- Create a welcoming and caring environment when working with students
- Assist in the development of educational and career plans that are consistent with students' personal values, goals, and career objectives
- Create and facilitate workshops/presentations for students on topics related to Student Success (group advising, First-Generation students, First-Year students, etc.)
- Disseminate/collect data through surveys. Communicate trends/patterns to Assistant Director
- Participate and aide in staffing Academic Affairs unit related events (i.e. Preview Days, Convocation and Commencement)
- Any other duties as needed and assigned by the Assistant Director and/or Senior Director
- In conjunction with the Career Pathway and Success Coach, assist all students with baseline Career/Internship advising related to purpose
- The Advisor may be asked to assist the Senior Academic Advisor or Director with various duties related to the specific areas of the Division. At their discretion, the Advisor will be assigned duties based upon the needs of the Division to provide services to students and the skills and experience of the Advisor. The Advisor may be assigned duties including but not limited to the following:
First-Year transition Programs, New Student Orientation, Study Away/Study Abroad, Special Populations Programming, and more.
